Posing for Dummies
A Peek into Guided Posing with Karen & Ashtyn Jade Productions
Tongue in cheek, there, I promise. Even the most brilliant (maybe especially the most brilliant) among us struggle to pose in front of a lens. It’s weird, it’s awkward - probably one of the least comfortable things in the world. So why even bother? (Especially now that AI is creating somewhat passable head shots.)
I’ll tell you why… Because showing up as an authentic version of yourself just hits differently. Communicating who you are visually brings an air of confidence and competence that resonates with people on a fundamental, evolutionary level.
The truth of it is that myriad fears or concerns underly the nerves you experience in front of the camera. Whether it’s weight, scars, wrinkles… Insecurities of all varieties find their way to the surface, and I’m keen to ease the anxieties of my clients. So let’s talk. Once I’m aware of what’s holding you back, I can work with it, even embrace it.
I take all the guesswork out of it for you. I call it guided posing, and it works exactly as it sounds. From the top of your head to the tips of your toes, I’ve got you. Perfectly placed hands—whether in a pocket, on a hip, or casually crossed—I’ve got you. Drop your shoulders. Lean in. Breathe. I’ve got you.
Posing is one of my favorite elements of photography because each body is different: the size, the shape, the ability to move and flow. Each client is like an incredible piece of clay, ready to be molded and shaped in ways that embrace who they are and highlight their individual strengths. I help my clients infuse each pose with their own flavor and character, and this creative collaboration is gold.
I’m ridiculously gifted at seeing the beauty in the world around me. It’s gotta be my super power. Even in the hardest and darkest moments, I see the light; I experience the softness. It’s why I’m so passionate about my work. I get to shed light on the gifts you have and the gift that you are—even when you may have forgotten.
So give me a shot. Allow me to be your photographer and to bring the beautiful, authentic you to the forefront of your story.
